American Legion
The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization with great political influence perpetuated by its grass-roots involvement in the legislation process from local districts to Capitol Hill. Legionnaires’ sense of obligation to community, state and nation drives an honest advocacy for veterans in Washington. The American Legion refers Veterans to the Veterans Affair office. Nevada Legal Services’ objective is to revitalize neighborhoods through the work of community based nonprofits and small businesses.
Who we are:
Nevada Legal Services, Inc. (NLS) is a non-profit organization that provides free legal services to low income Nevadans. Recently, NLS has started legal representation of nonprofit organizations and small businesses in Nevada. NLS is a state wide organization assisting every county in Nevada.
How we can help:
- Assist nonprofit organizations obtain 501(c) tax exempt status with Internal Revenue Service by working with them through all necessary stages of incorporation, drafting/reviewing of bylaws, preparation of IRS Exemption Application, and all other operational documents needed.
- Once a nonprofit organization has obtained its 501(c) status, NLS can assist the organization with requirements to stay compliant with the IRS and the state, property acquisitions, leases, zoning, licensing, permitting, contract drafting and review, employment law, insurance law, and many other legal areas that oftentimes, create burdensome hurdles for nonprofits to overcome.
- For small businesses, NLS can assist entities with the formation of LLCs, Corporations, Limited Partnerships, through various stages of incorporation, organization, drafting/reviewing of bylaws, drafting/reviewing of operating agreements, property acquisitions, federal and state tax issues, contract drafting/reviewing, property acquisitions, employment law, insurance law, and other legal areas.
